2.0 Wont connect to TFS 2010 RC

I thought that with TFS2010, permissions across the tools (TFS, WSS, etc) would finally be integrated and not require a special tool.
Well, I found out I was wrong this morning when my TFS Contributors all tried to connect to the Portal for the first time. No dice.
I then looked up this tool to help me implement them all into WSS.

Everything else I use (IE, VS 2010, VS 2008, etc) can connect to the new TFS 2010 server I have.
This 2.0 tool cannot.  Any help? This is the error.

TF31002: Unable to connect to this Team Foundation Server: myservername.
Team Foundation Server Url: http://myservername:8080.

 Possible reasons for failure include:
- The Team Foundation Server name, port number or protocol is incorrect.
- The Team Foundation Server is offline.
- Password is expired or incorrect.

For further information, contact the Team Foundation Server administrator.

 Any help would be appreciated.

The TFS Administration Tool 2.0 CTP uses the same dialog and code to connect to Team Foundation Server as Team Explorer 2008. In the error message I noticed that the URL  of the server is http://myserver:8080. When you connect to a Team Foundation Server 2010 from Team Explorer 2008 you need to specify the full URL of the team project collection: http://myserver:8080/tfs/DefaultCollection. Can you please check that you use the correct URL?

If that does not help could you please send me (lszomoru@live.com) the log files saved in the "Logs" directory under the installation directory.

Thanks, Ladislau

Thx for the prompt reply.

If you are using VS 2010 Beta 2, and continue to get 404 errors, this hotfix helped me connect to Codeplex:

http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB978148/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=3706

2 hours I'll never get back.

Can't connect to RC version now.
I can connect to any Beta 2 TFS server just fine.

VS 2010 RC connects to the server, but Admin tool will not.
When I try and add the server I get:

---------------------------
Team Foundation Server
---------------------------
TF31002: Unable to connect to this Team Foundation Server: http://servername:8080/tfs/COLLECTION .
Team Foundation Server Url: http://servername:8080/tfs/COLLECTION.

Possible reasons for failure include:
- The Team Foundation Server name, port number or protocol is incorrect.
- The Team Foundation Server is offline.
- Password is expired or incorrect.

For further information, contact the Team Foundation Server administrator.

Can you please give me more details about the bits installed on the machine on which you are running TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta? Does it have Team Explorer 2008 SP1 installed? Does it have the forward compatibility update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=cf13ea45-d17b-4edc-8e6c-6c5b208ec54d) installed? In case you do not have one of these installed, it should have been detected by the prereq check that we have in the setup. Have you uninstalled any 2008 components from the machine since you installed TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta?

You mentioned that you cannot connect from TE2010 RC to your TFS2010 RC server without any problems. Can you do the same from TE2008?

Thanks, Ladislau

I can connecto my TFS2010 RC server with VS 2010 RC, just fine.
I can connect to my TFS 2010 RC server with VS 2008 just fine.

I got past the inital connection error above by adding the server entry into the registry along with the other entries there.
Now the TFS Admin 2.0 tool connects to the server and shows me my projects....but when I try and connect to one of them (double click)....it hangs forever and then errors.

An error occured

An unexpected error occured, please consult the logs and file a bug with the project team.

.....so a little closer inspection shows that I have the CTP installed...not the Beta. That explains some things....standby.

Hmm...so now I got a new nifty dialogue.

"An error occured when connecting to Reporting Services for the selected team project, to prevent any data corruption you will not be able to administrate this project!"

Crap! Where do I need to adjust creds at now? I'm admin everywhere already.

Can you please check this MSDN article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd547204(VS.100).aspx) and make sure you have the permissions described in the "To grant administrative permissions for a team project collection in Reporting Services" section. In case that does not help, please feel free to send me (lszomoru@live.com) the information from the "Output" window or from the "Logs" folder and I will look into the issue.

Thanks, Ladislau

That was not the issue. I am admin on every level, system and application.
It seems that I am able to install this Admin tool on the server itself (after having to muddy up a 2010 system with 2008 explorer + SP1), but was not able to do it from my client.
Now that I was able to add permissions for everyone from the server, I am now able to run the tool from the client.

The "Logs" folder on the client where you encountered the problem earlier should contain the logs from all TFS Administration Tool 2.0 sessions. Please feel free to email me (lszomoru@live.com) the logs if you want me to look into the issue.

Thanks, Ladislau
