TFS Administration Tool 2.2 supports the Team Foundation Server 2012 Object Model.

Visual Studio 2012 or Team Explorer 2012 must be installed before you can install this tool. You can download and install Team Explorer 2012 from http://aka.ms/TeamExplorer2012.

There are no functional changes between the previous release (2.1) and this release.

If you haven't installed it already, please download the update and install it before installing TFS Administration Tool 2.0 RTM.

This release contains minor user interface improvements and fixes to the bugs that were found in TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta.

TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta

TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta supports Team Foundation Server 2010 RC. In order to connect to Team Foundation Server 2010 RC using Team Foundation Server 2008 object model you need to have the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Service Pack 1 Forward Compatibility Update for Team Foundation Server 2010 installed. If you haven't installed it already, please download the update and install it before installing TFS Administration Tool 2.0 Beta.

New Features
User Import
This new feature allows administrators to copy user permissions between two team project on the same server. In order to use this feature you will have to connect to at least two team projects from one server. In case a user already exists in the target team project his/her permissions will be overwritten with the permissions from the source team project. The outcome of the import operation is a set of pending changes which will be listed in the "Pending Changes" dialog. It will be up to the administrator to commit the changes.

In the Beta release we do not support copying user permissions between team projects from different servers but we are considering adding the ability to copy user permissions between team projects from different team project collections in case of Team Foundation Server 2010.

TFS Administration Tool 2.0 CTP

In order to support all available versions of Team Foundation Server (2005, 2008, 2010 Beta 2), TFS Administration Tool 2.0 CTP is using the Team Foundation Server 2008 Service Pack 1 object model. Before installing this release, please make sure that the machine has Team Explorer 2008 SP1 installed. The newly release Visual Studio Team System 2008 Service Pack 1 Forward Compatibility Update for Team Foundation Server 2010 (KB974558) is not required to use TFS Administration Tool 2.0 CTP with Team Foundation Server 2010 Beta 2.

I would like to briefly describe some of the new UI elements:

Server Explorer
Use the "Connect" button to connect to a Team Foundation Server instance. One of the new features is that now you can connect to multiple Team Foundation Servers at the same time. Now we also allow users to select only a subset of team projects to administer. In case you would like to change the list of team projects of an existing server or connect to a new server hit the "Connect" button again.

Add/Edit User dialog
We have chosen to move user editing from the users DataGrid into a separate dialog. This change also allowed us to implement the bulk edit feature that users have been asking for. Using the dialog you can set the same permissions for more than one user. You can easily add users to the list either by using the Browse button, or by typing in the user name and hitting the Enter key. You can also enter multiple users in the textbox by separating them with a ";".

Pending Changes Tab
Previous versions of the tool kept track of the pending changes however this information was not easily accessible. In order to facilitate "Undo" functionality we have decided to make this information easily accessible. Please note that the changes listed in the pending changes dialog are not submitted to the server until you hit the "Commit changes" button.

In order to facilitate the undo functionality we had to enforce some limitation regarding pending changes:

You cannot Edit a user which is marked as Deleted
You cannot Delete a user that has pending changes

Output Tab
The Output window will display all tracing information that are sent by the application. When closing the application, all the information from the output window is saved to disk to the "Logs" directory. This information will be very important when troubleshooting possible issues with the tool.
